Admit it – you’re intrigued. Well as you may or may not know, apples are kind of a hot commodity here in the state of Vermont. In fact, our state fruit is the apple and our state pie is the apple pie; we’re that serious about it. That being said, one of the favorite pastimes of both locals and visitors during the fall season is apple picking. There are quite a few orchards to choose from and some of the leading varieties found throughout the state are the McIntosh, Cortland, Red Delicious and Empire. While on your search for the perfect, crisp apple however, you may come across something unexpected – incredible, but unexpected.
The “Apples to iPods” event is back again this fall season and it’s taking place all throughout Vermont. If you’re planning to visit from out of state and are unfamiliar with the event, it’s really very simple. Specially-marked wooden apples are hidden in 19 of Vermont’s pick-your-own orchards, and if you happen to find one of the special “iPod apples”, you win an Apple iPod or maybe even an iPad. Talk about the cream of the crop!
What we love about this event is the fact that not only does it get people outdoors in the fresh air, but it’s also incredibly simple. This isn’t one of those crazy competitions where you have to do something horrible and overly-strenuous that you would never consider doing if there wasn’t a prize attached to it. Apple picking is one of the most popular fall season activities throughout the country, especially in Vermont. All you have to do is go apple picking with family or friends at one of these 19 orchards and you have a fair shot at walking away with an iPod or iPad. Sounds like a no brainer to us!
